The German Mining Museum, the Jahrhunderthalle, VfL Bochum football team – there are many different reasons why the residents of Bochum love their city. But Bochum has much more to offer:
Few other cities have achieved such a successful balance between past and future. Alongside industrial culture and innovative companies, life in this city at the heart of the Ruhr district is shaped by eight modern universities.
The universities provide education and employment to a large proportion of Bochum's inhabitants. Offering courses in every conceivable field of study, they open up a wide range of new opportunities.

GET INVOLVED WITH UNIVERCITY BOCHUM
The universities in Bochum offer a range of programmes to help with your studies:
Study orientation weeks
Even before you start your studies at a university in Bochum, you can visit for information and advice. Taster days, workshops and school open days provide the ideal opportunity to get an insight into student life and find out more about different fields of study. We also provide useful information for parents of students.
Students on tour
So, now you're a student. But what comes next? "Students on Tour" gives you and a group of other students the chance to visit a company and get behind the scenes. You can talk with company employees in a relaxed atmosphere, learn more about potential careers and work experience schemes, and get some ideas for your degree thesis.
Reception for foreign students
Bochum is a university city with an international character. Each year, the Mayor throws a reception for foreign students at Bochum's town hall under the motto “Welcome to UniverCity Bochum”.
Bochum's university ball is a glittering celebration. It provides the ideal opportunity for students, academics, university affiliates and representatives from industry and politics to meet and get to know each other.
